Wake ‘n’ Bakery & Glass Emporium – Route 302 Westbrook, ME

In this economy, the importance of supporting local businesses has become greater than ever before. This is why I’ve chosen to feature the Wake ‘n’ Bakery Cafe & Glass Emporium,  soon to be renamed “Jack’s Place”, after the proprietor’s son. The name change is just that, a name-change, but don’t worry, this establishment is still owned and operated by a great guy, Chris Vaughan, who does all of the cooking at the cafe.

The Wake ‘n’ Bakery Cafe is located on route 302 in Westbrook, Maine, about 3.4 miles north of Morrill’s corner, Portland, and offers a full breakfast menu all day long! This is one of the reasons why I like it so much. I can eat a decent breakfast at any time of the day! And it’s right across the street from my mechanic-friends at Lake Region Imports… so that’s a plus for me!

An abbreviated list of the extensive menu selections are as follows:

  1. For Breakfast:  Crab & eggs, steak & eggs; French toast; blueberry, apple, or oreo pancakes; biscuits & gravy; and a full line of omelets, scramblers or burritos with just about anything you would want in them!
  2. For Lunch or Dinner:  Juicy burgers & delectable wraps; and some specialties items like a Portugese sub w/grilled Linguica (sausage) peppers, onions, and mushrooms; a Rasta wrap with jerk chicken lettuce, tomato, & onion, green pepper, Pepperjack cheese, and their Pickapeppa sauce. Sandwiches are served with fries or chips, and a pickle wedge. They also offer a nice selection of appetizers like sweet-potato fries, Jalapeno poppers or hot-wings. The list goes on.
  3. For Kids (12 & under):  Chicken fingers, mac ‘n cheese bites, grilled cheese, or hot dogs served with chips or French-fries are just some of the choices.
  4. For Appetizers:  Sweet-potato fries, Jalapeno popper, spring rolls, onion rings, hot-wings and there’s more–Yum!
But this is only a partial listing of all that this cafe offers. You can also get, sides of bacon, sausage, ham, linguica, or veggie patties; assorted hot or cold beverages and alcoholic concoctions; microbrews (like Geary’s and Shipyard); and even fresh locally-made desserts, which look scrumptious, but honestly, I never seem to get that far.
wall decorations, carvings of Bob Marley the musician.
The place is decorated with Bob Marley (the musician, not the comedian) murals and carvings and has a FULL BAR along with live music on Thursdays (open mic), Fridays (Karaoke) and Saturdays (local bands). Come in and see/hear/taste for yourself. Your senses will come alive when you sit down to enjoy a build-your-own quesadilla, or create-your-own burrito! And you’ll be supporting a small-business establishment that has been operating for over 11 years!
